Confrontation on the Ships

This is a line-art I did a while back, but I don't think I ever posted it here! I wasn't sure whether I wanted to because it is actually fanart I made for someone, but now that I think about it, I think they would actually like me to post it here. This is a scene from Inhonoredglory and Toothlesslove's HTTYD2 Web-novel. That thing really is just the epitome of what HTTYD fanfiction can be. If you haven't read it, I would highly, HIGHLY recommend it. It is a tad dark, well... it is at times REALLY dark, but the beautiful, beautiful display of Hiccup and Toothless's friendship is shown really powerfully even in those darkest moments!

Anyway, this scene is from chapter 12, and at that point Toothless has been captured by wicked Vikings and is being shipped off to the island of Herkja to be hunted for sport. As if things couldn't get worse, his oldest foe finds him chained and helpless, and the Skrill known as Skari descends, lands on the mast, and mocks Toothless. It is a beautifully intense scene. Toothless and Skari are so tense and their thoughts are so biting!

As for the drawing itself, I LOVED playing around with the elements I messed with here! Drawing Toothless's head slightly from behind was very tricky, but I think he came out looking really good, and that little snarl he's making under the muzzle just feels so right! Then you have Skari, and I don't know if I've officially declared it, but Skrills are by far my second favorite dragon! Skari, the Skrill shown here, is actually the Skrill responsible for my pathological fear of Skrills! Yes, I love the dragon, and they are only second to Toothless in my ranking, but that doesn't mean I don't find them to be flat-out terrifying! This picture was so, so fun to construct because I was capturing two my two favorite dragons together in a scene that is actually emotionally powerful. I don't know how well I capture the actual angst of the story, but I do like this art piece! Please zoom in on it. It is a really large image, and you might find some nice details if you look closely!

  1. The plot of dragons being placed on an island to be hunted sounds a lot like the Predator movies :/.
